13 Reasons Why Season 5 isn’t going to happen
If you were hoping to see another installment in the story of the Liberty High students, there’s some bad news. 13 Reasons Why Season 5 isn’t happening.
Hoping to get another season of 13 Reasons Why? There’s some bad news. Season 5 definitely isn’t happening on Netflix.
No matter what you think about the way the fourth season ended, the show isn’t coming back. When it was renewed for Season 4, Netflix confirmed that it would be the final season. In a way, this is relatively fitting. We go through four years of high school in the U.S., so it makes sense that a show about the high school years is four years long.
The good news is that at least the warning that it was the final season meant a wrapped up ending. We got to see many of our students graduate, although not all. There was a chance to say goodbye to the characters unlike with an abrupt cancellation.
Thirteen Reasons Why
Should there be a fifth season of 13 Reasons Why?
There is the question about whether a fifth season is necessary. This would only really work if the show jumped forward in time.
Most TV shows struggle with the college years. It’s hard to give a reason for everyone to remain in a town or to go to the same college. However, with contracts and characters that we become connected to, the show has to find a reason.
If 13 Reasons Why Season 5 was going to happen, it would need to go the route of One Tree Hill or the planned route of Riverdale, opting for a time jump. This could skip over the college years and find a more realistic reason for characters to return to their hometowns.
However, I do think there are only so many storylines that could have been covered on the show. Ending it now avoids it becoming a soap opera with constant drama, death, and destruction.
