We’re at that time of year when we fear the loss of our favorite shows. What about 911? Is Season 7 going to happen on FOX?

Networks are making some big decisions about the slate for the 2023–2024 season. That means some TV shows are going to be canceled. Usually, we can look at the live ratings to get an idea of what’s going to be canceled and renewed. When you look at the live ratings for 911, you’d likely think the show would land a seventh season.

Well, FOX surprised everyone with a cancellation decision.

Is 911 canceled?

That’s right. According to Deadline, FOX has canceled 911 after six seasons. Don’t panic just yet, though. It doesn’t mean the end of the series.

ABC stepped in before the news was made about the series. It has swooped in to save the day, which makes sense when you consider it is one of the most popular shows on broadcast TV. Of course ABC was going to pick it up.

This decision has been in the works for some time, though. 911 is a 20th Century Studios production. That meant it was a FOX production at first. Then the studio was bought by Disney (the network was not) and now FOX has to pay to license the content. While the show is the most popular on the network, it’s also the most expensive and FOX couldn’t keep going with it.

There’s more of a financial stake for ABC to keep it going as ABC is owned by Disney. So, it makes sense to move it to that network.

911 Lone Star is also renewed, but isn’t moving to ABC. That will remain on FOX.
