ABC wants another black-ish spin-off and we’re on board!
If there’s one thing we’re totally on board with, it’s another black-ish spin-off. This time, it’s all about being old-ish.
There’s another black-ish spin-off in the works. This would be the third spin-off from the series, and we’re completely on board with this one. The title is set to be old-ish, and I’m sure you can guess what it’s going to be about.
While grown-ish focused on Yara Shahidi’s Zoey at college and mixed-ish is focused on Bow’s upbringing, old-ish is going to be focused on Dre’s parents, Ruby and Earl. Laurence Fishbourne and Jenifer Lewis are both reprising their roles we’ve come to adore them in.
Giving love a second chance
Fans of black-ish know that Dre has an unconventional lifestyle. His parents have split up, but living around each other constantly, they’ve found love again. Now, they’re going to attempt to make their marriage work for a second time.
The two are also moving away from Dre and the family. They’ll still be in L.A., but in a rapidly gentrifying neighborhood, which will bring up many current topics in life. Their neighbors will represent the old and new faces of their community.
We don’t know much else about the series. However, it’s a positive move for ABC, continuing to build a supportive and inclusive series. It’s not just about being inclusive with another Black-led, but a series that focuses on the older generations, something that is routinely overlooked on TV.

black-ish returns in the fall
ABC initially decided to hold black-ish for the spring, which may have been linked to the drop in live ratings. However, the schedule came out at the time of the Black Lives Matter protests starting. There were legitimate concerns that ABC was pushing its Black-led series from the fall schedule at the wrong time.
Fortunately, ABC rectified that, quickly moving it back to the fall. The Election special episodes that were removed from previous seasons will be the first two episodes to air, premiering on Oct. 4, 2020.
So far, old-ish has not been officially picked up, but it is in the works. We have a lot of hope for this new series.
