ABC has made some big decisions about its shows. Alaska Daily is one of them. Will the Hilary Swank series return for Season 2?
Our eyes are on the 2023–2024 season. Networks are making their final decisions ahead of the Upfront presentations next week. ABC is the latest to announce some news about the shows on its network.
Alaska Daily was among the shows on the bubble. Will there be a second season, or will that first season finale now serve as a series finale?
Is Alaska Daily Season 2 happening?
It is bad news for the Hilary Swank series. ABC has decided to cancel the show after just one season, according to TVLine.
Like with most other cancellations, there isn’t a clear reason given. It is potentially due to the costs of creating it vs. the viewership. That Thursday night timeslot that it got is a difficult one, and it takes a lot to get a show renewed after being in that timeslot, especially a freshman series. Despite Grey’s Anatomy acting as a lead-in, viewers just don’t seem to stick around.
The first season did at least wrap up the investigation Hilary’s Eileen Fitzgerald was working on. She and Roz got to the bottom of the case, and the right person was arrested for Gloria’s murder. The two decide to stay with the paper, which is going to face competition with a new paper opening.
