Carnival Row is one of the shows closed down for production. It’s not likely to go back until the end of the year, so we’re looking at a 2021 premiere date.

If you were looking forward to another season of Carnival Row, you’ll need to wait a little longer. The second season likely isn’t going to premiere until late 2021.

You can blame the current global health issues for that. The show was among those shutdown for production earlier this year and there aren’t plans to return just yet. Unlike Lord of the Rings for Amazon and The Witcher Season 2 for Netflix, it’s not on the list of shows that have been given the greenlight to get back to filming.

Even if it did, it turns out that it probably wouldn’t return to filming during the summer anyway. According to an interview with Variety, Cara Delevingne shares that she doesn’t know when production will start back up. The show needs the cold and the wetness of winter, so that’s probably when if they can head back.

Don’t expect Carnival Row Season 2 for a while

If the show doesn’t go back to filming until the winter, it means a longer delay for us getting the series. It’s not clear how far into the season the cast and crew were before being shut down in March. It could be that almost the entire season still needs to film, which will take at least nine months to carry out. Then we’re looking at post-production.

Hopefully, a good amount of the start was filmed and is going through the post-production stage virtually. That will allow for a little less time between finishing up filming and the premiere of the second season.

We’re still going to be around for it, though, right? Carnival Row was an amazing show, made all the better because it was a show without source material.

Unlike The Witcher, The Boys, and even The Baby-Sitters Club, this is a series that was able to develop a whole new world and new story. We don’t have conceptions in our head from the source material, meaning we can go in without comparing it to anything. And it shows the creative abilities of all involved.

So, it will be worth the wait, for sure. Even if we have to wait until late 2021 at the earliest.
