CBS fall 2021 schedule: NCIS and SWAT among shows on the move
There are a lot of TV shows on the move on CBS during the 2021-2022 season. Here’s a look at the CBS fall 2021 schedule.
CBS has been mixed in the shows its canceled and renewed. NCIS: New Orleans and Mom were the most shocking cancellations, but there have been some exciting renewals including NCIS for its 19th season.
During its Upfronts on May 19, 2021, CBS unveiled its fall schedule. There are plenty of shows on the move, and it’s now easy to see why some of the big shows had to come to an end (even if we’re not happy about them) and why some shows like SEAL Team are on the move to Paramount+.
In fact, SEAL Team Season 5 is a notable show on the CBS fall 2021 schedule. The first four episodes will air on CBS, according to Deadline, but not on Wednesdays where we’re used to it. The episodes will air on Sundays at 10/9c. After those four episodes, the series will head to Paramount+ and SWAT Season 5 will take over the Sunday night timeslot after initially debuting on Fridays at 8/7c.
NCIS on the move to Mondays, FBI Tuesdays
CBS is opting for something similar to NBC, which has One Chicago Wednesdays and will have Law & Order Thursdays in the fall 2021 schedule. CBS will have FBI Tuesdays, which gives Dick Wolf three nights of takeover programming on one network during the week.
FBI kicks off the Tuesdays in the CBS fall 2021 schedule. That then leads into the new series FBI: International, before ending with FBI: Most Wanted.
So, what does that mean for NCIS? That’s on the move to Mondays. This is a strategic move to make Mondays stronger. While the comedy duo to kick off the night are good, All Rise and then Bull have tended to struggle. The hope is the No. 1 drama will help to support Mondays, while adding new show NCIS: Hawaii in the hour afterward.
Bull moves to Thursdays to the 10/9c timeslot. This is a tricky timeslot where SWAT and Evil have both struggled to perform. Clarice has been the recent addition that struggled to gain traction. It’s not just CBS that struggles with this timeslot. ABC has also struggled, canceling Rebel after just five episodes.
