What would have happened in Council of Dads Season 2?
We’re still somewhat bitter at Council of Dads being canceled after one season, but we do get to know what would have happened in Season 2.
It’s getting to the point where it’s hard to give any TV show a chance. Too many are being canceled, despite being the type of show TV needs right now. Council of Dads is certainly one of those shows.
We’re still a little bitter that NBC has canceled the heartfelt series after one season. However, there is some good news in that TV Insider found out what would have happened in Season 2.
Fans will remember that the finale left us in disaster. A hurricane had hit the Perry family and the home needed rebuilding. Meanwhile, Larry was left at the bar, fighting against the idea of drinking.
Would Larry break his sobriety?
We’d seen Larry as a rock during Council of Dads Season 1. Despite his own difficulties in life, he was there to offer a helping hand to others, especially when it came to addiction. After all, he’d been down that road.
But we were left fearing the worst; that he was going to break his sobriety.
Was that going to be the case? EP Tony Phelan wouldn’t give a definite yes or no, but he was most definitely going to struggle with sobriety. With the show offering realistic and some heartwrenching storylines, this isn’t that surprising. He probably would have fallen off the wagon with the Council and their families helping him get back on it.
Rebuilding homes and lives
Council of Dads was going to show some extra growth in the characters. The first season saw the creation of the Council of Dads. They were there to support the families, while getting advice for themselves.
The second season was going to see this turn around. We’d have seen the family support the dads.
At the same time, each of the characters were going to have to rebuilt their own homes. It would have been interesting to see how the show would have worked, as we were going to get some stories of during the hurricane and the aftermath. Would we have had some flashbacks a little like This Is Us?
The Council of Dads: A Story of Family, Friendship & Learning How to Live
Storylines touching on today’s events
It turns out that one of the storylines was going to involve Robin dating a cop in the south. That would have certainly raised some questions for some of the dads, and it would have been a storyline touching on today’s events.
Again, considering just how much this show focused on realism and life, bringing in current events isn’t that surprising. What would have been interesting was seeing all the different viewpoints in a balanced way, along with seeing Robin struggle with the relationship when not everyone was necessarily on board.
On top of that, Robin is still grieving the loss of her husband. So, that would have been an extra layer as the dads come to terms with her moving on.
A Council of Moms?
The show may be called Council of Dads, but the women became an important part of the story. The second season was set to see them form a Council of Moms.
It was great to see the dads step up for each other and their families. However, there are some topics that dads just aren’t the best at. There’s nothing wrong with that! Seeing them try is brilliant, but they’re not going to be the ones some daughters turn to for advice and help. The moms are.
So, it sounds like we would have seen more from the moms during the second season. There’s still certainly some rebuilding needed within some of the families, so that would have been interesting to see develop.
