With General Kirigan/the Darkling as the villain, something had to happen to him at the end of Shadow and Bone. Did he meet his fate?

Even for those who hadn’t read the Shadow and Bone books ($), it was pretty clear that General Kirigan was going to turn out to be the villain of the story. He had his reasons, but he still split the world and created fear. And yes, he wanted to use Alina’s power for himself.

It was only a matter of time in the first season that he would be taken down. The question was whether it would be permanent.

At first, it looked like it would be. While crossing through the Shadow Fold, Mal and the Crows tried to take Kirigan down to protect Alina. Alina managed to find the ability to fight back, realizing that the stag chose to amplify Alina’s power and not Kirigan’s power. As the Crows took care of some of Kirigan’s follows and some of the creatures in the Fold, Mal and Kirigan fought on the sand.

The end of the fight sees the good guys win, assuming that Kirigan is dead within the Fold. Is that really the case?

Did Kirigan die on Shadow and Bone?

Did you really think it would be that easy? Something to remember is that the series is based on a series of books. Kirigan plays a role in the other books, so there was no way the TV show was going to kill him off.

At the end of the season, we head back to the Shadow Fold. While everyone else is going on with their lives and trying to protect Alina from a world where some want her dead and others want her power, Kirigan emerged from the Shadow Fold with a few extra scars.

He also has a creature from the Fold working with him. He is out for revenge, and Alina, Mal, the Crows, and Zoya better watch their backs.
