Is Freema Agyeman returning to New Amsterdam Season 5? (Will Helen be in the final season?)

There is no New Amsterdam without Sharpwin. What’s going on with the fifth and final season? Is Freema Agyeman coming back?

Since the beginning of New Amsterdam, it’s been a will-they-won’t-they storyline between Helen Sharpe and Max Goodwin. Finally, the fourth season brought us the couple we’ve all been routing for. And then things changed.

For a while, it looked like Max was going to choose New York over Helen. Then he chose love, but it wasn’t long before he had to head back to New York to deal with the situation there with Dr. Fuentes. They were still finding ways to make things work, and it looked like they would finally get the wedding of their dreams.

It all changed in the final seconds of the New Amsterdam Season 4 finale. Helen didn’t get on the plane to New York for her wedding. The couple was left in limbo for the fifth and final season.

Will Helen return in New Amsterdam Season 5?

The creative team had promised us that there would be plenty of Sharpwin in the final season, but the recent news has us second-guessing this. TVLine reports that Freema Agyeman isn’t coming back to the show. She’s currently shooting for Dreamland with Lily Allen, and it looks like she just isn’t interested in returning for the fifth season.

We do hope that we’ll see her in the final episode. The only way we can see this ending is with Helen surprising Max at the very end of the series finale or with Max going to London to be with Helen. But either way, it’s going to suck big time not having Freema around for the final season.

It’s already bad enough the season has been cut short. There will only be 13 episodes to the season. How can this really feel like a proper ending without Sharpwin?
