Game of Thrones spring 2019 box from CultureFly review

There’s a new Game of Thrones mystery box from CultureFly. The spring 2019 mystery box certainly doesn’t disappoint. Here’s a review of the items from this box.

As you would expect, there are certainly spoilers from the box. If you haven’t received your yet and you don’t want to know what’s coming, you’ll want to skip this. This review is perfect for those who still aren’t sure about getting the CultureFly Game of Thrones mystery box.

I like to do these reviews with a look at the “good,” “bad,” and “mediocre.” I’ll admit that nothing is actually bad. I’m going to do an “okay,” “good,” “great” review instead. That suits the items that I received this quarter. Let me say that if you’re on the fence, the last few boxes in a row have been awesome and well worth the money.

This month’s theme was: The Battles of Westeros. That’s the exact theme you’ll feel looking through the items.

The okay: Magnetic board and pin

Okay, I say the pin is mediocre but that’s mostly because it’s the smallest item on the box. Honestly, I love that CultureFly is keeping something consistent with the boxes. If you got them all, you’ll likely gain a full collection of house pins if this keeps up. So, it’s definitely something worth keeping, but it is one of the lesser items in the box. This month was the Targaryen pin.

The other item that’s “okay” is the Baratheon magnetic board. It does come with magnet darts, which I do like. It’s meant to be a whiteboard, but doesn’t have a way to pin it against the wall. I guess I’ll have to get a bracket for the back of it. This is a practical, novelty item, but not one of my favorites.

I don’t mind getting “okay” items. It doesn’t make them bad. At least these two items have their place. But now onto the good.

The good: The plates and the T-shirt

This quarter’s Game of Thrones box came with a set of four dinner plates. They’re a “Red Wedding” dinner set. Each plate has a sigil of one of the four houses at the Red Wedding. I’m sure this brings up some bad memories of the first time you watched (or read) in horror.

The plates are a good size and good quality. They’ve become a go-to option for my kids because of the size and the fact that they’re plastic. We just avoid letting them have the Bolton plate! I got a set of plates in the Supernatural winter 2018 box that is also good quality but a little smaller. Unlike the cups and glasses, the patterns haven’t rubbed off in the wash, so I’m happy with them.

T-shirts are always fun to get. My wardrobe is pretty full of T-shirts from mystery boxes to show off my love for various fandoms and geeky memorabilia. The Game of Thrones spring 2019 T-shirt is one from the Blackwater Bay explosion, full of dragonfire. What’s awesome is that the T-shirt glows in the dark.

So, why is this only good? I’ll admit that it’s more of a comfort thing. The print has a harder material than others because it glows in the dark. The problem is that there isn’t a decent cover on the back of the T-shirt so it does rub a little on the chest.

The great: Lamp and blanket

Something that I loved in the Supernatural winter 2018 mystery box was the blanket. Well, I was stoked to get a CultureFly email about a Game of Thrones mystery box spoiler and find out that a blanket was included in that. The blankets are warm and soft, definitely, something needed in the cold Canadian climate.

The blanket is made up of all the different house sigils. I think every single main house is included, with the odd smaller house that we’ve heard mentioned on the show or in the books. It’s a good size. Although, I have to admit, I’m finding it hard to stop the dog from stealing it! He loves his blankets almost as much as I do.

The other item that I’m raving about this quarter is the LED lamp. It connects via USB, so you can choose to connect directly to the computer or connect via a USB plug — and if you have phones and tablets in the house, you likely have plenty of those lying around!

This lamp has the Targaryen sigil and it lights up in a variety of colors. At first, I was disappointed that the lamp initially lights up blue. With it being the dragon, I was hoping for red first, but then Winter is Here and all that…

There are multiple different colors to choose from, but you can also opt for flashing colors. If you’re plugging it into the computer, the lamp will immediately light up when you boot the computer up. Just beware of that!
