Gilmore Girls could get a second revival if timing works out

When it comes to stories about real life, there is always something to share. So, why hasn’t Gilmore Girls had a second revival yet?

The ending of the first revival, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life seemed to hint that there was more to come. After all, it ended with Rory potentially having a baby but not knowing who the father was. There’s a story right there in the making.

So, why hasn’t it happened? Is it because Netflix canceled any plans? Considering Netflix’s habit of canceling shows that we’re only just getting into, that wouldn’t be all too surprising. However, it turns out that it’s not about Netflix at all.

The timing isn’t right for a second revival

The show creator, Amy Sherman-Palladino, admitted to TVLine that it’s got nothing to do with a lack of storytelling. It’s not that there aren’t storylines there, but that the timing isn’t right.

In fact, she and co-creator husband, Daniel Palladino, routinely have discussions about what could have happened on Gilmore Girls. Or they’ll discuss the potential for more storylines in the coming years.

What’s stopping them? It’s the logistics of TV.

Gilmore Girls: The Complete Series Collection (Repackage/DVD) ($)

Let’s just remember the fact that the Palladinos have a hit series that they’re going back to filming in January 2021. The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a must-watch for all Gilmore Girls fans, another series focusing on real life and struggles. There’s plenty of hope that Amazon will renew the series for a fifth season whenever the fourth debuts (filming delayed by the pandemic).

And it’s not just about the creators. The stars of the series aren’t available yet. Alexis Bledel stars in The Handmaid’s Tale, which will start filming Season 4 in Toronto soon. Lauren Graham is on Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist and the upcoming Mighty Ducks revival.

Logistics aren’t falling into place yet. That doesn’t mean it can’t in the future, and it sounds like this is all that’s holding back a second Gilmore Girls revival.
