Grey’s Anatomy: Another series regular exits the series

We all knew Jackson Avery was leaving Grey Sloan Memorial, but he’s not the only one. Who else left on Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Episode 15?

The episode was a goodbye to Jackson. Jesse Williams chose to leave the series, and his exit has been written from the beginning. It’s clear the signs were there with Jackson routinely pointing out the unfairness of how COVID-19 was affecting people of color.

What we didn’t expect on Grey’s Anatomy Season 17, Episode 15 was for another character to leave. Greg Germann has left the show as a series regular. However, unlike Williams, Deadline reports that Germann will return as a guest star in the future. It’s not clear how often, when, or how it will work.

Why did Koracick leave Grey Sloan Memorial on Grey’s Anatomy?

It’s not clear why Germann is leaving, although that’s possible due to his contract coming up for renewal and him deciding to move onto other projects. It’s not something we get to know. Regardless of that, we had to see why Koracick would leave the hospital.

Throughout the episode, Koracick had helped to save a Native American man, who turned out to be one of the only speakers of his language. This man had a stroke, and it turns out he had COVID-19 before that. Koracick then learned about how much Native American tribes had been hit with the disease, and the fact that rather than PPE, they were sent body bags!

While Koracick has been harsh and impatient at times, he has always shown compassion in the right moments. This was one of those moments, and it’s not the first time he’s been affected by the severity of COVID-19. At the end of the episode, he told Jackson that he was the only white person in his room. All his roommates who had died of COVID-19 had been people of color.

He now wants to do something good with the unfair gift he was given. He doesn’t really care what he does as long as he can be an ally and help in some sort of way. Jackson couldn’t say no, and so Koracick is off to Boston to work for the Fox Foundation.
