Good Omens Season 2 brought us the mystery of Gabriel forgetting everything, including who he was. What had happened to him?

We knew Good Omens Season 2 would bring us a mystery involving Gabriel. The season quickly gets into things with Gabriel turning up at Aziraphale’s bookshop completely naked with an empty box. He had no idea who he was, who Aziraphale was, or what had happened to him.

It was quickly clear that Heaven was up to something. Anyone searching for what had happened to Gabriel would get the same treatment, which put Aziraphale and then Crowley at risk. What didn’t help was that Hell was also looking for Gabriel to find out what happened to him.

So, what exactly did happen? Did Gabriel get his memories back?

Why Gabriel lost his memories in Good Omens Season 2

We found out everything in the final episode. It turned out that Heaven was still looking for a way to bring about the Apocalypse after the failed attempt in the first season. Gabriel wasn’t on board with this, leading to him being demoted and losing all his memories.

Hell didn’t seem to know anything. In fact, Hell didn’t even seem to be on the side of getting the Apocalypse up and running again. It turned out that Beelzebub and Gabriel were in love, and that’s why Beelzebub was so focused on finding out what had happened to Gabriel.

It also turned out that all of Gabriel’s memories were put in a fly. We saw the fly going around the bookshop, but many likely assumed that this was something from Heaven or Hell. However, the fly was connected to Gabriel to give him back his memories when the time was right.

In a major twist, Aziraphale was offered the job Gabriel once had, and he was willing to take it. He even wanted to bring Crowley back as an angel to help. That leads to a bittersweet moment as Crowley lets out his feelings for Aziraphale before making it clear that he wouldn’t join him in Heaven.
