House of the Dragon premieres in August, and it will be on the list of things to watch for all Game of Thrones fans. What is the Game of Thrones prequel series about?
It’s almost time for the Game of Thrones spin-off we’ve all been waiting for. House of the Dragon premieres on Sunday, Aug. 21. There’s no need to watch the original series first. This is a prequel set 200 years before the events involving Cersei, Daenerys, Sansa, Jon, and the others.
The series follows one of the stories set up in Fire & Blood. George R.R. Martin wrote all about the Targaryen dynasty in that novel, and it’s certainly worth buying to see the beautiful illustrations. It sets out the tales for all the Targaryen kings, including the one in House of the Dragon.
What is House of the Dragon going to be about?
The series picks up 200 years before Game of Thrones*. It follows King Viserys I, who believes his daughter Rhaenyra Targaryen should become the next person to sit on the Iron Throne. She’s his daughter. Of course he wants his own flesh and blood to sit on the throne.
However, she’s a woman. Westeros has never seen a female monarch. However, may people believe the next monarch should be a man, and they have just the person to support: Viserys’s son from his second wife, Aegon Targaryen.
We also need to remember that Daemon, Viserys’s brother, is the heir presumptive so he has a huge stake in this fight.
It starts a bitter civil war between the Targaryens. Who will come out on top?
