House of the Dragon Season 2 probably won’t arrive in 2023. Production is set to start in March 2023. Here are the details we know.

We would love to say that House of the Dragon Season 2 will arrive sometime this year. That’s not looking like the case, though. In fact, HBO exec Casey Bloys made it clear that we probably won’t see it until early 2024 at the earliest. And he should know how long it would take to get the series.

The recent news about production start date continues to suggest a 2024 release date. Production isn’t set to start until March 6, 2023. This comes from the industry publication Production List. This list isn’t always 100% correct, but it is often close and gives us a good idea of what’s going on around the world right now.

When will House of the Dragon Season 2 premiere on HBO Max?

So, when can we expect it on the streamer? With production starting in March 2023, we’re looking at spring 2024 at the earliest for the season to premiere on the streamer. It could even be a little later.

A show like this takes a long time in post-production. Just look at how amazing the dragons looked in this series compared to Game of Thrones. There are so many more details being added, and that requires time, money, and work.

There are a lot of questions for the second season. Of course, we can get some of the details from the book Fire & Blood by George R.R. Martin*. It’s worth noting that the book is a retelling of what three other people have shared about the story of the Targaryens. It’s not always right, and that’s allowed for a lot more creative liberties to be taken in the TV series.

We’ll get to see the aftermath of Luc’s death at the end of the first season. Rhaenyra will take no prisoners this time. She’s out for blood and revenge.
