New shows start small but can get backorders. Is that happening with Walker Independence? How many episodes will be in Season 1?

The CW brought us two new shows in fall 2022. Walker Independence is a fun prequel story to Walker Season 3. It brings us the story of how the Walker family got their start in Texas.

Like other new shows, the series only had 13 episodes to begin with. There was always the option to bring extra episodes via a backorder. That’s the way things work when it comes to new shows on broadcast networks. What’s going on with this new series?

There is some bad news for those who want more episodes. TVLine has confirmed that The CW is not offering a backorder for Walker Independence. It’s not offering a backorder for The Winchesters either. This isn’t too surprising considering all the big changes at The CW right now.

This would usually have us concerned about a second season. A lack of backorder usually means the show isn’t performing well. When it comes to The CW’s standards, the show is performing well. This may not be well enough for Nexstar, which has taken over the majority share of the series.

There is still a chance the series will land a renewal. The CW is making a lot of changes, but we do hope that the network will want to keep a few shows from recent years.
