We end the weekends just right with Nathan Fillion’s The Rookie. What about next season? Is The Rookie canceled or renewed for the 2022–2023 season?

As we get closer to finale dates, there’s no doubt fans are worried about their favorite shows. This is the point where we get the bulk cancellation decisions, and they can be on the shocking side. We’re still extremely disappointed that FOX canceled Prodigal Son and nobody has saved it.

So, eyes are on other top shows. One of those is The Rookie, which we absolutely love as a way to end the weekend. Will it continue to end our weekends in style?

Is The Rookie canceled?

There was some great news at the end of March. ABC has renewed The Rookie for Season 5.

This wasn’t all too surprising. The series is a staple for Sunday nights. Our only concern was the small dip in the live ratings. However, it’s a Sunday night. Of course there are going to be dips. Sundays aren’t an easy night, and consistency during the season is key. Consistency is something this series brought throughout this year.

We don’t have a premiere date for the new season just yet. We’re fully expecting it to remain in the fall schedule, with it remaining on Sundays at 10 p.m. ET/PT. This is something ABC will confirm soon. It could move forward an hour if the spin-off starring Niecy Nash is picked up to series. It would make sense to keep the two shows on the same night, running back-to-back.

As for an exact premiere date, that’s not going to come until June or July. We are looking at the end of September or the start of October as a premiere date for this series.
