Is The Time Traveler’s Wife cancelled or renewed for Season 2?

HBO has brought us the beautiful retelling of The Time Traveler’s Wife. Is this a limited series, or will Season 2 happen?

When a series is based on a book that only has one book to a series, there is a concern that it’s going to be a limited series. Usually, TV shows are billed that way. That doesn’t mean the story remains a limited series, but there is usually the plan of “one-and-done-ing” it.

That doesn’t seem to be the case for The Time Traveler’s Wife. Based on the novel of the same name, the series tells us the love story of Clare and Henry. With the synopsis for the sixth and final episode of the season, we’re up to the wedding. Fans of the book (and even the movie starring Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams*) know that there’s more to the story after this.

Will The Time Traveler’s Wife Season 2 happen at HBO?

Right now, HBO has not cancelled or renewed the series. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing right now. It just means the ratings haven’t been so spectacular that the series was renewed immediately. The critic response hasn’t been the greatest, and the live ratings on the channel are low, but we don’t know what the ratings are like via the HBO app and HBO Max.

This was a show that got a straight-to-series order. The work into the sets has already gone in, which does suggest that a second season could be on its way. It’s not going to cost as much as a whole new series.

It all depends on the ratings. We’ll have to wait and see what HBO decides, but if there’s more to The Time Traveler’s Wife story, we want to see it play out on screen!
