Will Mrs. Keyes return on The Handmaid’s Tale?

Mrs. Keyes believes that she and June should work together to bring Gilead down. Will she return on The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4?

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 4 certainly got off to a shocking start. Within three episodes, we lost hope for June, got it back, and then screamed at the TV due to the loss of two excellent characters who deserved much better. As we did all that, it’s possible that we overlooked a particular character who we’d love to see again.

After initially patching June up in the Season 4 premiere, the Handmaids got her to a safe house. That safe house was run by Commander Keyes. Well, more like Mrs. Keyes since she was poisoning her husband. And for good reason!

It turned out that Commander Keyes wasn’t the only one to force himself on her (although, I guess you’re not allowed to call it that in Gilead when she was married to him). She allowed Guardians and other Commanders to have their way with her in an attempt to make her pregnant.

She’s just a child, remember. Mrs. Keyes is played by the excellent McKenna Grace, and the character is only 14 years old. Of course she wanted revenge against her husband and everyone who violated her. And yes, she wants to bring down Gilead.

What happened to Mrs. Keyes on The Handmaid’s Tale?

During the second episode, the safe house was infiltrated thanks to Nick and Commander Lawrence. June wasn’t there at the time, and she’d managed to get the other Handmaids to safety, but Mrs. Keyes was still at the house at the time that Nick got there.

June learned from Nick that Mrs. Keyes had been captured. We have no idea where she’s being held. It’s possible that she’s being tortured for information.

June eventually gave up the location of the safe house and the other Handmaids were captured. However, June and Janine have managed to get away, and in the next episode, we’ll find out what will happen to them next. Where are they going to go when they’re wanted by Gilead yet again?

But what about Mrs. Keyes? She’s still trapped somewhere in Gilead and possibly imprisoned. That’s if she’s still alive. It doesn’t look like we’ll get to see Mrs. Keyes again. And it’s a shame because this was one character who could make you uncomfortable but in a good way. It gave us that look at trauma and how people can react to it, especially when the mind is still developing.
