NBC fall 2021 schedule: No comedies in sight!

We’re used to NBC kicking things off on Thursdays with comedies. That’s not the case in the NBC fall 2021 schedule.

That’s right; NBC is opting for a fall schedule that has no comedies at all. Well, the start of the fall may have some final episodes of Brooklyn Nine-Nine Season 8 to air, but that’s unlikely due to the plan to air the season after the Tokyo Olympics. So, it means a fall full of dramas and unscripted programming.

CBS is making up for it with Mondays and Thursdays still hosting comedy. ABC will also have Wednesday nights for comedy. However, it’s going to feel off for those who have routinely tuned into NBC in the past for the likes of Superstore and The Good Place.

One cycle of The Voice, This Is Us moved to midseason

There are some other notable changes to the NBC fall 2021 schedule, according to Deadline. The first is that This Is Us won’t air. The final season of the series is being held to the midseason. There is a blessing in disguise here as all 18 episodes will air without any breaks, making up for the stop-start season this year.

Another big change is that the 2021-2022 season will only have one cycle of The Voice. The singing competition usually has a spring cycle, but NBC is looking at changing a few things up.

The lack of comedies on Thursdays is because there’s going to be a full night of Law & Order. With FBI Tuesdays on CBS and One Chicago Wednesdays on NBC, this gives Dick Wolf three full nights of drama per week. The new series Law & Order: For the Defense will kick things off, keeping SVU and Organized Crime in their timeslots from the 2020-2021 season.

It’s worth noting that there are still many elements that look the same. New Amsterdam remains on Tuesdays at 10/9c, while The Blacklist remains on Fridays at 8/7c. And, of course, Wednesdays will still be all about the three Chicago shows.
