Outlander has announced some casting for the upcoming seventh season. Some of the casting is new, while others are returning faces. Then there are characters who have been recast. Jenny Murray is one of those characters who has been recast.

All eyes are on Kristin Atherton. She’ll take on the role, but she has some big shoes to fill.

Why isn’t Laura Donnelly returning in Outlander Season 7?

There have been questions about whether Laura Donnelly would come back to the show. Back in Season 4, there was a storyline that was supposed to involve Jenny. When Donnelly didn’t return, the writers chose to rework the storyline, and it wasn’t something that fans liked.

The show didn’t need to worry about things until we got to the seventh season. This is when Jenny comes back and in a huge way. So, why wouldn’t Laura return for that

She’s made it clear that she wasn’t likely to come back. She has moved on to other projects, with fans able to see her in The Nevers and Werewolf By Night at the moment. There have also been comments about some of the more rabid members of the Outlander fanbase. She didn’t like those fans, and it has made her question a return.

Plus, Laura isn’t too sure about the aging of the character. We’ve seen the show have aged Sam Heughan and Caitriona Balfe, but it doesn’t sound like something Laura is interested in doing.

The show couldn’t go on without Jenny, though. That meant there was no choice but to recast.
