Peaky Blinders canceled: Netflix officially cancels the British period crime drama
After an incredible five seasons, Peaky Blinders will return for one final time as Netflix renews and cancels the series with its sixth season.
Netflix has officially announced that the time of the Shelby family is to come to an end. Making their announcement via social media, Peaky Blinders told their fans that not only had Season 6 filming begun, but it would be their final season.
It’s been a long road for the Shelby family. We’ve seen them come a long way from their Birmingham roots. No longer are they bookies fixing horse races, but international businessman with their hands in almost everything.
Including politics.
Where we left the Shelby family on Peaky Blinders Season 5
And politics is exactly where we left things off in Peaky Blinders Season 5. With the rise of fascism in Germany growing ever stronger as we march headfirst towards World War 2. Tommy finds himself being dragged against his will into this unknown world.
No longer is the enemy of the Shelby family rival bookies, local gangsters, the IRA, or even the Italian mafia, but the men who sit in Westminster creating laws.
How exactly the series will bring everything to a close in the final season will be interesting. There have only been six episodes per season traditionally, so it doesn’t leave a whole lot of time to wrap things up from where Season 5 left off.
Peaky Blinders the true story ($)
What does this mean for the series finale?
Creator Stephen Knight clearly thinks this is going to be an issue. Because while the announcement of the series coming to an end, he stated the story will continue. Just in another format.
Details on what this form will be were not revealed at the time. If we were to look at other TV shows that have continued in other formats, Doctor Who, Firefly, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, etc., then most likely it will be in book/comic form. There is also the possibility of podcasts as well. Maybe even a final movie.
Since then, it’s been confirmed a movie will happen.
We’ll have to wait and see what is in store for us. It’s early days right now. Most likely as they wrap up filming for Peaky Blinders Season 6 or as the final season aires we’ll begin to get details on who it will continue.
