FOX has renewed The Resident and Last Man Standing. Why didn’t it give the go ahead for Prodigal Son Season 2? Should we be worried?

It has nearly been two months since the season finale of Prodigal Son aired and we still do not know if we are going to get another season. FOX has started renewing several of its shows, but we are still drawing a big old blank when it comes to Prodigal Son Season 2.

Should we be concerned? Should we take this silence as a sign we won’t see Malcolm Bright and his complicated family again?

Well, our gut reaction is yes! You should be worried! We really should have heard about Prodigal Son Season 2 by now.

However, if we take a step back. Take a deep breath and look at things in a bit more detail, it’s actually not that bad.

Unlike The Resident and Last Man Standing, who were recently renewed by FOX, Prodigal Son is actually a co-production between Warner Bros. Television and FOX. This will significantly delay any renewal decisions as the process needs to go through two different networks.

Due to the global pandemic. The time taken to make decisions are already slow as nobody is sure what the future holds for us all. Therefore adding more time to the decision making process.

However, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the main factor slowing down the decision making process is not what we just talked about above. Or the concerns that normally plague TV shows like ratings, but rather the actor Michael Sheen.

By the sounds of things there could be scheduling conflicts with the actor. This will obviously affect how both FOX and Warner Bros. Television think. If Sheen is available, then no doubt everything will be good to go. If not, then they will obviously have to see if the series can work without him.

Ultimately. The delay in a renewal announcement is not a bad thing. It is not a sign of the series about to be cancelled. More likely finer details are still being hashed out and a decision about Prodigal Son Season 2 has not yet been made.
