Prodigal Son Season 2 is on a mini-hiatus. When will new episodes air in 2021? Here’s all we know about the return date so far.

Right now, there isn’t much to work with. We know that Prodigal Son Season 2 is on a mini break, and it will return sometime in April 2021.

When in April? That date hasn’t been confirmed yet. It’s possible that we’re waiting until the middle of the month. This is based on the return dates for 9-1-1 Season 4 and 9-1-1: Lone Star Season 2, both also on FOX. The shows will head out on a break after Monday, March 8’s episodes and not return until Monday, April 19.

So, with that in mind, we could have to wait until Tuesday, April 20. Prodigal Son did go on a break a week earlier, so we could only have to wait until Tuesday, April 13. We’re hoping for the earlier date!

Why is Prodigal Son Season 2 on a break?

The break that’s happening is for two reasons. The first is the pandemic. Filming is taking longer than it usually would for each episode and that means there aren’t enough episodes ready to go not to have a break.

Instead of constantly doing a week off and a few weeks on, FOX seems to want mini breaks to give the shows a chance to get ahead.

The breaks will also help for the second reason: May Sweeps. Getting as many episodes to air in May as possible is important. This is when the big look at the number of viewers happens, helping with renewals and scheduling.

This is a series on the bubble (mostly thanks to its move to Tuesday nights). We need to keep proving the show deserves a second season.
