Will Resident Alien be renewed for Season 2?

Resident Alien has only just begun, but we’re already looking at its future. What are the chances of it being renewed for a second season?

Let’s start with one fact: SYFY doesn’t have a good track record for renewing good content recently. Some excellent TV shows have been canceled way too soon including The Expanse, Dark Matter, and Deadly Class.

There is a concern that the same thing will happen to Resident Alien. That does make it difficult to put a risk on a SYFY show. Why get invested in a series that is just going to be canceled? But Resident Alien is so good. Even the pilot episode didn’t feel like a traditional pilot.

But the future will still rely on the numbers. We don’t get to see what the views are like through the official SYFY site, but we do get to see the Nielsen ratings. They give us a snapshot of how good a show is doing.

Update on March 17: Resident Alien Season 2 is officially confirmed.

Resident Alien is off to a good start

Things are looking positive for the sci-fi dramedy. The pilot pulled in more than a million viewers with a 0.17 demo rating. While that doesn’t sound great compared to the likes of CBS and ABC, it’s great for SYFY.

Just comparing with other TV shows on the network, it’s the top performing show. Yes, it’s ahead of Wynonna Earp, which is the only SYFY series not yet canceled or ending. (We’re still waiting for the final season of Van Helsing.)

It does offer some hope that Resident Alien Season 2 will happen. If the show performs well, why would the network want to cancel it.

On top of that, the reviews for the series have been positive. The first season holds a 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes from the critics, and the audience score isn’t that far behind. It’s funny and humanizing despite it being all about an alien.

We’ll be keeping a close eye on this series. We hope SYFY makes the right decision about the future of the alien series.
