We know Targaryens marry their own, but will that happen in House of the Dragon? Will Rhaenyra and Daemon get married?
Spoilers for House of the Dragon Episode 4 in this post.
We know a civil war is coming. The Targaryen dynasty is going to be threatened, but who will the civil war be between? At first, it looked like Rhaenyra and Daemon would be forced against each other, but now it looks like it’s between Rhaenyra and her little brother Aegon.
During the most recent episode, Daemon took Rhaenyra out of the Red Keep to see the world of King’s Landing. At first, she got to experience a performance that didn’t make the Targaryens look that great. Then she headed to a brothel with her uncle. The two kissed, but Daemon pulled away. He wasn’t going to go all the way with his niece. There is a good side to him even if he is conniving to get the Iron Throne.
When Viserys learns the truth, he confronts Daemon. One thing this series makes it clear is that we can’t predict Daemon.
Will Rhaeyra and Daemon get married in House of the Dragon
During the episode, Daemon makes Viserys believe that he and his niece were intimate. Why would he do that? Well, it’s all a ploy to get Viserys to give Daemon the Iron Throne. Daemon wants to marry Rhaenyra. Making Viserys believe that they were intimate should make that possible.
Viserys points out that Daemon already has a wife. That isn’t going to stop them, though. Aegon the Conqueror had two wives. We know from Fire & Blood that other Targaryens took more than one wife, and Daemon was going to do that just a couple of episodes ago.
Spoilers from Fire & Blood* at this point.
By the end of the recent episode, Viserys finds a way to deal with some of the political headaches. He decides Rhaenyra will marry Laenor Velaryon, Corlys’s son. Rhaenyra even makes it clear that she won’t object to this. She will do her duty, but Viserys has to do his. And that’s to get rid of Otto Hightower.
This is where we need to turn to the source material to understand what will happen. Sure enough Rhaenyra and Laenor marry. They even have three children, but then Laenor dies. Rhaenyra could stay a widow, but instead, she and Daemon get married in secret and have two children. Yes, these two will remain a headache for the King.
