Snowpiercer Season 3: What happened to Ruth in Episode 2?
We knew there was a chance Ruth would lose an arm on Snowpiercer Season 3. Is that what happened at the end of Episode 2?
Caution: In case you couldn’t tell, there are spoilers in this post from Snowpiercer Season 3, Episode 2.
When we saw the trailer for Snowpiercer Season 3, it was clear that one person was at risk of losing a limb. That person was Ruth. That’s not surprising considering she was left on Big Alice at the end of the second season after she helped to give the revolution a chance.
However, in the Season 3 premiere, we saw that the resistance had been hiding her. Pike refused to allow their leader to be taken down. It all came to a head in Episode 2 when Ruth learned the device Wilford was working on was designed to knock out all the electrical systems in Layton’s 10-car pirate train. It would leave Layton dead in the water, and Ruth wasn’t about to let that happen.
Ruth sacrificed her freedom for Layton in Snowpiercer Season 3, Episode 2
There was only one thing Ruth could do. She decided to turn herself in, giving Pike and Lights a chance to disarm the electromagnetic device. It worked, sort of. The two didn’t disarm the device, but they did kick it off the train.
The main prize was Ruth, though. Wilford wanted her captured, and he had a chance to make an example of her. What better way than to take arms in the way that she had for years.
She stood stoically as her arm was prepped for the port—and Wilford shared the ports were just designed to be an idle threat and Ruth chose to use them, although I don’t believe that. Just as her arm was about to go through the port, a train blew past.
Layton had figured out where Wilford was thanks to the electromagnetic device going off. That led to him being able to catch up with the train, and Wilford is more excited to go to war than he is to take Ruth’s arm. That can wait for another day. For now, Ruth is back in prison and with both of her arms intact.
