Snowpiercer Season 2 finale: Who lived and who died?

Snowpiercer Season 2 came to an epic conclusion. As Layton and Ruth broke out of their prison cell, who lived and who died on Snowpiercer Season 2 finale?

The two-hour Snowpiercer Season 2 finale was anything but boring. We got to see Wilford in charge and assess what Audrey is really up to. (Spoiler: it turns out Audrey is choosing a side she thinks will help her survive longer.)

By the second hour, Layton and Ruth learned that Melanie was still alive. There was a chance to get to her and get that data, but they needed to overthrow Wilford. That meant breaking out of prison.

We always knew there was a risk of death. Would Layton and Ruth meet an untimely end? What about Wilford considering he’s played by Sean Bean? Well, the death was none of them!

Layton and co. split the train

During the Snowpiercer Season 2 finale, the train drove past Melanie at speed. They’d managed to initially overthrow people, but in the end, Wilford got control of the train at Big Alice and it made it impossible for Snowpiercer to slow down enough for Melanie to jump on.

Melanie realized there was a big problem. She realized that Wilford was in charge, and she had to head back to the data center to bide her time.

Meanwhile, on the train, Layton, Ben, and the others had to find a way to get back to Melanie. Alex had a plan to split the train at the aquarium. This would allow a small section of the train to move forward at a faster speed to get to Melanie and Big Alice could power the rest of the train until the pirate train got back.

It almost didn’t happen. Wilford wouldn’t get back. In the end, Josie—who was now the next Icy Bob—betrayed Wilford and smashed through the aquarium. She managed to force a break between the two trains.

Who died on the Snowpiercer Season 2 finale?

Of course, someone was going to die. There were a couple of deaths, sadly.

The first was Javier, who barricaded himself into the Engine of Big Alice. The door wasn’t very sturdy and it didn’t take too long for Wilford’s men to break the door down. In the end, Javier was killed by Wilford’s trusty dog. Game of Thrones, much?

The second major death happened off-screen. It’s not clear if this character is really dead or not.

Layton and Alex got to the data center to find Melanie. They found the hard drives, which had been kept warm, but there was no sign of Melanie. They did find a book. As Alex read the book, we got Melanie’s voiceover to tell us what she had written.

It was a goodbye letter. There was no way to survive in the data center, but Melanie could keep the data. Knowing that Alex was against Wilford because she saw her, Melanie was able to go out in the snow in peace. However, she made a note that she put her helmet on. Is there any chance that she could have survived?
