While Grey’s Anatomy was renewed last month, we’ve had to wait longer to hear about Station 19. Will Season 7 happen?
2023 has certainly been a weird year for renewals. ABC has opted to bring about renewals one by one. Just a month ago, we found out that Grey’s Anatomy Season 20 would officially happen. The firefighter spin-off usually gets renewed at the same time or just after, but we’ve had to wait longer to find out about its fate.
ABC has finally decided to share whether we’ll see 19 back in action for another year. Just why did it take so long to get the news?
Is Station 19 Season 7 happening?
There is some excellent news. ABC has renewed the series for Season 7. Yes, it is back for the 2023–2024 season.
The cast wasn’t the problem. It all came down to episode count, according to Deadline. ABC hasn’t shared what the episode count will be for the season, which is usually between 16 and 20 episodes. Is this a sign that the series will move back to the midseason? That seems like an odd decision due to the strong live ratings.
The renewal has also come with news of a change of showrunner. Krista Vernoff announced earlier that she would step down as showrunner of both shows in the Grey’s universe. Station 19 will see two people take over the day to day running of it.
Zoanne Clack joined the series just eight months ago after a huge change in the writer’s room. The promotion to co-showrunner is her second promotion since then. She is joined by Peter Paige, who joined the series as a director in Season 4 and then as an EP in Season 6.
Station 19* airs Thursdays on ABC in the U.S. and on CTV in Canada.
