The Good Doctor is getting a spin-off. It needs a backdoor pilot first, and the date for The Good Lawyer pilot is set.

More and more broadcast networks are turning successful shows into franchises. NBC has seen success with the One Chicago and Law & Order franchises, while CBS has the FBI and NCIS franchises. The CW has Walker and All American and FOX has the 911 franchise. Well, ABC also has franchises.

With the success of the Grey’s Anatomy and The Rookie franchises, it’s time to add another. It’s all about The Good Doctor*, and The Good Lawyer is the planned series to continue this universe. It all starts with a backdoor pilot, and ABC has set the airdate for the episode.

When will The Good Lawyer air?

The Good Doctor spin-off will get a backdoor pilot titled “The Good Lawyer.” It will introduce us to Joni DeGroot, played by Nancy Drew‘s Kennedy McMann. She’s a young lawyer who struggles with OCD on a daily basis. While it does impact her life, her attention to detail can also help her succeed at work in ways that others can’t.

Dr. Shaun Murphy is going to hire her to help him win a case. We’ll also get to meet Felicity Huffman’s Janet Stewart, a highly-regarded partner at the law firm Joni works at. She is very much like a Glassman to Joni’s Shaun.

The backdoor pilot will air on Monday, March 6. It is just a regular episode of The Good Doctor, although it will more heavily feature the two leads for the spin-off than other characters at the hospital.
