The Last Kingdom Season 5: Netflix officially renews the series
It’s official, Arselings! The Last Kingdom Season 5 is happening on Netflix. Here’s all we know about the new season so far.
There is some excellent news, Arselings. The Last Kingdom Season 5 has officially been confirmed by Netflix.
We had heard the show may have been quietly renewed last month, but it’s always good to get the official confirmation. At least we weren’t waiting until close to the season’s premiere like we had to wait for The Last Kingdom Season 3. Anyone else remember that wait?
Variety shared the news with the social media post that series lead Alexander Dreymon did with various cast members. They included Arnas Fedaravicius, Mark Rowley, and Stefanie Martini. Interestingly, Eliza Butterworth was part of the video and there was a mention as to whether Butterworth would be back (and a hint that she won’t).
There will be 10 episodes in the new season, which has become the norm since Netflix has become the sole producer. Hopefully, there will at least be a mention of where Uhtred’s missing son is.
What to expect on The Last Kingdom Season 5
The fifth season will combine the ninth and 10th books in the series. That means “The Warriors of the Storm” and “The Flame Bearer” will be developed across the 10 episodes.
Choosing these two books isn’t that surprising. The show has consistently developed two books per season.
The Flame Bearer (Saxon Tales)
The good news is Netflix didn’t say The Last Kingdom Season 5 is the final season. This gives us hope that Netflix wants to give the show a chance to adapt all the books. There aren’t many left. The 13th book is set to be the last, which could mean one or two more seasons at the most.
