The Last Kingdom Season 5: Has it quietly been renewed?

Former show runner Stephen Butchard has hinted that The Last Kingdom Season 5 is a go with production continuing slowly.

Officially there has been no announcements made about The Last Kingdom Season 5. The Netflix Original dropped its fourth season at the end of April and fans are still waiting to hear if they will ever see Uhtred of Bebbanburg ever again.

We expected to have heard from either Netflix or The Last Kingdom by now. On average the streaming giants take around a month to make a renewal decision. Leaving us concerned about the shows overall fate. Thankfully, there could be a shining light upon the horizon.

Stephen Butchard, former show runner of the series, gave an interview to the fan site Winter is Coming where he discussed his involvement with The Last Kingdom, along with his upcoming work.

During the interview he stated the following:

I’m adapting a John le Carré novel, and another Mafia based show in Italy I’m working on as well. But we’re kind of going, when are we going to be able to make these? Similar to series 5 of The Last Kingdom,….

This does not mean the Netflix Original has been renewed. After all, until the official announcement is made nothing is for certain, but it is a good sign the story of Uhtred of Bebbanburg is about to continue. Something we all desperately want to see.
