5 TV shows and movies you need to check out this weekend

Not sure what to watch this weekend? The streaming services have you covered. Here are five TV shows and movies to check out, including Undone and more.

There are many TV shows and movies available right now and it becomes overwhelming. Take a step back this weekend. Here are five offerings across the various streaming sites available, including Amazon Prime Video, Netflix, and more.

5. Mary, Queen of Scots

If you’re looking for a movie loosely based on history, Mary, Queen of Scots is the one to check out. It was added to HBO Now earlier this week and is also on Crave for those in Canada with the movies add-on package.

Mary, Queen of Scots tells the story of the woman made Queen of Scotland at just six days old. The movie picks up later in her life after she leaves France after becoming a teenage widow. She wants to protect her country from the English. There are certainly elements that don’t match history—such as Mary and Elizabeth meeting!—but this is a movie to check out if you love Margot Robbie and Saoirse Ronan.

4. Tall Girl

The next movie to check out is on Netflix. Tall Girl was released on Sept. 13, and tells the tale of the tallest girl (in fact, person) in her class. Uncomfortable with her height because people pick on her because of it, she tries to hide in the shadows. However, a new kid in class who is also tall may be able to help her feel comfortable in her own skin.

This is one of those coming-of-age tales that’s sweet to the core. There are plenty of lessons we can learn, especially when it comes to accepting and being proud of our differences.

3. Pocahontas

If you’re looking for a movie to watch with the family, turn to Hulu on Sept. 14. Disney’s Pocahontas will be available. This movie will likely eventually move to the Disney+ streaming service, but at least the two are owned by the same company!

Pocahontas is the Disney movie that gives us a tale of the British coming to the colonies. The daughter of a tribe chief decides to teach an English man a thing or two about her people. Along the way, the two fall in love.

2. Unbelievable

We’re back over to Netflix for the next offering and now it’s time for one of the TV shows on the list. This limited series isn’t going to be comfortable for everyone to watch, but it is an important topic. When a girl is raped, her story doesn’t seem to add up and she’s forced to recant. However, it’s soon clear that she may have been attacked and raped after all.

It takes two female detectives to figure out the serial rapist’s M.O. and how he’s managed to get away with so much for so long. Can they encourage the women to share their tales again to get to the bottom of the situation.

1. Undone

Finally, it’s about one of the most anticipated TV shows in September, Undone. The Amazon Original is a must for all, plus you can easily binge-watch it this weekend. This is one of those shorter TV shows, with episodes that are just 30 minutes long.

Rosa Salazar is Alma, a 28-year-old woman whose relationship with time changes after a near-fatal accident. Is she really experiencing a new power or is she going mad? That’s the question throughout the episodes on Amazon Prime Video right now.
