WandaVision: Who was Monica Rambeau’s mom?
Monica Rambeau was officially introduced in WandaVision Episode 4. Who is she and who is her mom? There’s a connection to the MCU.
WandaVision Episode 4 quickly made it clear that the series is set in the MCU. Kat Dennings showed up, reprising her role of Darcy Lewis. Her task was to help figure out what had happened to Monica Rambeau, the agent who ended up in Wanda’s world as Geraldine.
Well, it turns out Monica is also a direct connection to the MCU. You’ll be forgiven if you initially overlooked it. It all links to her mom and a storyline that took place in the 1990s in the MCU.
Monica Rambeau was in Captain Marvel
Think back to Captain Marvel ($)and the woman who helps Carol Danvers. Maria Rambeau was the woman who refused to believe that her best friend had died, and she jumped into action (although initially reluctantly) to save Danvers and the planet.
Maria wasn’t alone, though. She had a daughter, Monica.
Monica Rambeau in WandaVision is the grownup version of the little girl from Captain Marvel. And yes, it’s possible considering the movie was set in the 1990s and WandaVision is post snap.
WandaVision Episode 4 makes it clear when the story takes place
If you’ve been wondering when in the timeline this story takes place, the fourth episode also helped us figure that out.
Monica was one of those snapped out of existence. In the beginning moments of the episode, she returns from the snap along with many others. The hospital is in chaos as everyone figures out what is going on, but for Monica, it’s all about finding out what happened to her mom.
Marie has died. She died during the five-year period of the snap from cancer, three years after Monica disappeared.
It was devastating for Monica to learn, but even worse learning that it had been five years since her own surgery—the reason she was in the hospital in the first place.
So, Carol Danvers won’t get to see her friend again, but there is a chance we’ll see Monica reappear in another Captain Marvel movie.
One thing is clear: The story takes place in 2023.
