Why was Locke and Key cancelled after three seasons?
Locke and Key Season 3 is now streaming on Netflix, but it is the end. Why did Netflix decide to cancel the show?
We know all good things eventually have to come to an end. It may not be surprising to some to hear that Locke and Key Season 3 is going to be the last season. We went into the episodes knowing that they would be the last eight.
The big question for many is why Netflix would cancel the show. After all, there are plenty of graphic novels in the series*. Why not keep the story going? It turns out that it wasn’t Netflix’s decision. Not completely, anyway.
Why is Locke and Key Season 3 the last?
There isn’t going to be a fourth season of the series, but it wasn’t Netflix that decided to cancel the show. Instead, it was a show decision. The series was always planned to be a three-season show, and Netflix agreed to follow that plan.
It’s not common for Netflix shows to come to a natural end. A lot are cancelled after just one season now. Just look at Daybreak and most recently First Kill. Those that do get past one season tend to only last three or four seasons at the most as the costs go up exponentially.
The success of the first season did lead to Netflix agreeing to two more seasons. Then everyone agreed that three was the end.
