The Blacklist* Season 10 is officially going to be the last. Why has NBC decided that this is the end point for the James Spader drama?
Did it feel for anyone else that The Blacklist was never going to end? It looked like it was it for the show a few times, and then it bounced back or it was clear there was a little more story for Red. Well, it’s finally coming to an end.
NBC has announced that Season 10 is going to be the last for the series. The 10th season premieres on Sunday, Feb. 26, and it sounds like the season has been written as the last. To be honest, with the way things in Season 9 ended, it did feel like Season 10 would be the end.
We’re going to see some familiar faces from the first season. There are also other connections to that very first season, which tends to be the case when a long-running show comes to an end.
Why is The Blacklist Season 10 the end?
It does sound like the ending has been both a network and a show decision. Showrunner and EP John Eisendrath shared that “[they’re] honored to reach [their] conclusion.” That does hint that this was a planned ending. Maybe it wasn’t the planned ending at first, but it’s become the planned ending over the years.
The dip to the ratings over recent years will have also impacted the decision. Then we have the fact that multiple people from the series have left, with Megan Boone the most notable exit at the end of Season 8. We did wonder if the show could work without her, and while some of it did, it was time to bring the show to an end.
This is a series that deserves an ending instead of being abruptly canceled. It looks like NBC and the show agreed with that. This final season will include the 200th episode of the series, which will air on Sunday, March 19.
