Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist renewed for Season 2 by NBC

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist

It’s a great day for TV shows. Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist is among the renewals. NBC has picked it up for a second season.

NBC has been making some big decisions about the futures of its shows. Recently, we’ve learned shows aren’t coming back, but that’s not been the case with the latest news. NBC has opted to renew Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist for a second season.

The renewal may be surprising for some. After all, the ratings were lower than Lincoln Rhyme: Hunt for the Bone Collector, which was recently canceled. However, there was a lot working in Zoey’s favor compared to Lincoln Rhyme.

Fans are certainly happy to hear the news. Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist has been praised as one of the strongest new shows of the year. It’s heartfelt, funny, and hits you in the feels more often than it doesn’t. And it’s such a brilliant approach to storytelling, as well as being inclusive in a way many would never initially think possible.

After-episode streaming certainly a benefit

According to DeadlineZoey’s Extraordinary Playlist‘s safety net has been in its digital ratings. While the live ratings have been low, the online streaming figures have been incredible. The social media presence from the fans has also been out of this world. With this sort of support, NBC would have been ridiculous not to renew the show.

There were talks that the show would move to the NBC streamer, Peacock, to allow it to keep going. This is something that’s happened to A.P. Bio. However, it looks like the network is choosing to keep the show for the main channel. It will likely remain with Good Girls, another show that benefits from its digital presence.

However, there is a look at making Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist Season 2 available the following day on Peacock. Right now, the first season is available to stream there in full. Making the second season available the following day will certainly help NBC continue to benefit from the day-after streaming results to keep the show viable.
